Distribution Technician

The Distribution Mechanic is responsible for the safe maintenance, service, and repair of the Distribution System. Responsibilities include performing specific duties regularly during the eight (8) hour daylight shift, reporting activities and observations to the Distribution Lead, and completing required records. The mechanic may also perform duties at the plant or remote locations as directed by leads, and must be responsive to operator requests.

The mechanic reports to the Distribution Manager and works an 8-hour daylight shift scheduled by the Plant Superintendent, paid according to the Union contract (International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO Local No. 95-95A).

The scope of work includes:

1. Utilizing all safety procedures and carrying out safety responsibilities.
2. Inspecting and maintaining the Distribution System, including vault visits.
3. Diagnosing issues with valves, fittings, and pipes, and performing repairs or replacements.
4. Preparing work sites for safety and efficiency.
5. Performing LOTO procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and working safely.
6. Adjusting, repairing, overhauling, and rebuilding system components.
7. Responding to operator requests.
8. Operating vehicles safely.
9. Maintaining tools, equipment, parts, and materials.
10. Performing welding, cutting, brazing, and pipefitting tasks.
11. Maintaining cleanliness in the yard area.

Knowledge & Skills

• High school education.
• Mechanical aptitude as evaluated by the Distribution Lead.
• Physical ability to work in hot and cold environments, confined spaces, on ladders, lifting up to 75 lbs, and standing for long periods.
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and DOT medical card.

Experience & Education Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Certified Welder.
• Minimum 3 years operating water tube steam boilers (100 psig or higher).
• Chilled water system experience preferred.
