Job summary

Vast Space Llc. in Long Beach, CA seeks a Mechanical Engineer, Thermal Control Systems to design, build, and test thermal management for human-rated space stations.

You will own heat exchangers, cold plates, heaters, and heat pipes from concept through validation, collaborating with propulsion, avionics, and mission operations teams. Candidates hold a BS in engineering, 2+ years of mechanical design experience, and proficiency in 3D CAD, FEA, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or related field.
• 2+ years designing and developing mechanical components or systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of thermal control systems and components for our artificial-gravity space station, such as heat exchangers, cold plates, heaters, and heat pipes, from initial design trades through validated system.
• Lead thermal and fluid analyses to drive design decisions and margins.
• Perform systems engineering for hardware, including requirements, interfaces, and verification by test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration.
• Lead development and qualification testing, iterating on designs and manufacturing processes in a fast-paced environment.
• Own the delivery timeline from early design through production, launch, and orbit insertion.
