Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled Thermal Engineer to support thermal analysis across vehicle and mission levels, including the MK1 Lunar Lander. The role interfaces with stakeholders and hardware teams to develop robust thermal models and deliver clear design decisions.

You will perform hand calculations and Thermal Desktop/Sinda/Fluint analyses, generate reports, and present findings to engineering and management. A strong physics background and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of relevant Thermal Engineering/Analysis experience.
  • Experience in thermal and fluid design fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated thermal analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with modeling spacecraft thermal performance using Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.
  • U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission to the U.S. as a refugee or asylee.
  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering preferred.
  • 4+ years of relevant aerospace experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with thermal control hardware such as coldplates, radiators, heat exchangers, heaters, and multi-layer insulation preferred.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as Python, C/C++, FORTRAN, or Matlab preferred.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems demonstrating breadth in application preferred.

  • Develop new or modified thermal analysis models representing vehicle configuration and behavior.
  • Create analysis cases to evaluate vehicle thermal performance in worst-case conditions.
  • Analyze component and assembly thermal performance using hand calculations and Thermal Desktop models.
  • Post-process analysis results and draw engineering conclusions from output data.
  • Author and publish analysis reports to support engineering decision-making.
  • Generate and present design review content to subsystem, vehicle, business unit partners, and customers.
  • Perform thermal analysis for the MK1 Lunar Lander across component, vehicle, and mission levels, from launch through cislunar space to the lunar surface.
