Job summary

North Texas Medical Center is seeking a Physical Therapy Aide to assist with specific treatments under the supervision of a Staff Physical Therapist. You will help restore patient function, transport patients, and support clerical duties such as invoicing and record-keeping.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, current BLS certification, and completion of PT Aide Competency Evaluation. Prior PT Aide experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Physical Therapy Aide Competency Evaluation.
  • Currently valid BLS certification is required.
  • One year of PT Aide experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specific treatments only as directed by the Staff Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain patient records, evaluations, handouts, and invoicing records.
  • Report changes in a patient’s condition to the Staff Physical Therapist and team.
  • Assist with equipment and adaptive devices; stock and record-keeping.
  • Transport patients to scheduled appointments following safety policies.
  • Prepare and clean treatment areas and equipment; close department at end of day.
  • Document treatment/revisions per department policy.
  • Ensure therapist countersigns aide documentation and maintains good inter-department relations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support patient care and performance improvement.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for provision and administration of specific physical therapy treatments only under the direct supervision of the staff physical therapist. The Physical Therapy Aide as directed and supervised by the Staff Physical Therapist assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Performs clerical duties, assists with posting of patient charges in the computer order entry system or on hardcopy invoice system.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Responsible for providing specific treatment only as directed by the Staff Physical Therapist.
  • Maintains patient medical record forms, evaluations, educational handout distribution material, assists in record keeping of patient files, invoicing, claims billing.
  • Communicates any changes in condition (physical or mental) to staff physical therapist, nursing and other facility personnel as appropriate.
  • Orders, stocks, maintains accurate records of adaptive equipment.
  • Transports patients according to scheduled appointment time, maintains compliance with safety policies during transport at all times.
  • Prepares and cleans treatment area for patient use at all times. Performs final cleaning at close of department in preparation for first morning patient.
  • Records treatment/service revisions in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Responsible for assuring that licensed Staff Physical Therapist reviews and counter signs aide’s documentation.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
BASIC SKILLS
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Basic awareness of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.
  • Basic knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • High school graduate or GED certificate
  • Satisfactory completion of Physical Therapy Aide Competency Evaluation and job training
  • Current BLS certification
  • One-year experience Physical Therapy Aide preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Able to communicate effective in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Position requires the ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to assist with patients or equipment up to 500 pounds. T
  • he individual will be required to stand for long periods, push, pull, lift, bend, kneel, twist, and reach above shoulder level.
  • Requires vision and hearing skills corrected to near normal range.
