Therapy Technicians are efficient multitaskers who can manage multiple priorities at once. They have good organization and prioritization skills and are also excellent communicators capable of building relationships with patients and families. In order to achieve success in the role, they must exercise strong problem solving and decision-making abilities as well as a knowledge of and respect for standard policies, regulations and confidentiality agreements.
Job Responsibilities
- Cares for patients under the direct supervision of either a Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP).
- Acts as an assistant to the Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapist. Tasks trusted to the Technician may include: patient prep before treatment, transferring, transporting, and positioning patient with the guidance of the PT, OT, or SLP.
- Performs selective treatment procedures as directed to them by the PT, OT, or SLP.
- Is responsible for all therapy equipment in that, the Therapy Technician will set up and take down relevant equipment for Therapist use during treatment sessions. They will also manage inventory and maintain equipment including cleaning the equipment in between patient use.
- Must effectively communicate with patients and their family members in a professional and confidential manner. It is the Therapy Technician’s responsibility to respond (to the best of their knowledge) to patient questions and concerns, deliver information, and maintain patient satisfaction. They must also maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Occasionally acts as an administrative assistant, helping reception with incoming patients, recording and stocking inventory and scheduling appointments and treatments.
Requirements
- CPR and BLS certification
- High school diploma or GED
- OCCASIONALLY (1/2-2.5 hours/day): sit, stand in place, walk, twist (knees/waist/neck), climb, push/pull and lift objects of various weights.
- FREQUENTLY (2.5-5.5 hours/day): crouch (bend at knees), stoop (bend at waist), turn/pivot, reach overhead, pinch (grasp small objects).
- CONTINUOUSLY (5.5-8+ hours/day): be mobile, grasp larger objects.
