Job summary

Kaiser Permanente Northwest in Portland, OR, seeks a Radiation Therapist to provide ionizing radiation per prescription, operate linear accelerators, and document care in the electronic chart.

You will educate patients, perform simulations, QA checks, and mentor new graduates while collaborating with oncologists and support staff to ensure timely treatments in a busy oncology department.

Qualifications

  • Two- to three-year experience as Radiation Therapist.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
  • Licensure: Oregon Radiation Therapist License or Washington CRT.
  • Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate - Radiation Therapy Technologist.
  • Experience on linear accelerators and simulators; use of a Record and Verify system.
  • Excellent teamwork, organizational and customer skills.
  • Ability to administer radiation treatments according to prescription.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the prescribed, planned course of therapy accurately.
  • Perform simulation/tumor localization procedures.
  • Orders for care are scheduled, carried out and documented in the electronic chart.
  • Mentor New Graduate Radiation Therapists as needed by the department.
  • Educate the patient on the procedure prior to performing.
  • Responsible for linear accelerator warm-up and daily QA checks.
  • Take weekly portal images for treatment verification and have physician check.
  • Take patient photos and treatment field photos and transfer to patient chart.
  • Check patient and chart identification, prepare the treatment room, set up immobilization devices, blocks, and tattoos.
  • Ensure patient is seen by Oncologist weekly and more often if signs of treatment complication appear.
  • Observe and practice Radiation Safety Standards.
  • Maintain equipment and notify service representative of any problems.

Experience
Basic Qualifications
  • Two-three (2-3) years of experience as Radiation Therapist.
Education
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program prior to the date of hire.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Radiation Therapist License (Oregon) OR Certified Radiologic Technologist (Washington)
  • Basic Life Support within 1 months of hire
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Radiation Therapy Technologist
Additional Requirements
  • Experience on linear accelerators and simulators, use of a Record and Verify system.
  • Must be able to seamlessly administer radiation treatments according to the prescription and multi-task.
  • Familiar with the use of immobilization devices.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Possess excellent teamwork, organizational and customer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four-five (4-5) years experience as a Radiation therapist.
  • Experience with Varian Linear accelerators with MLC, Varis Record and Verify system, and CT simulation.
  • Experience with HDR, SRS, RapidArc and IMRT treatments.
  • Experience in the design and creation of blocks and immobilization devices.
  • Good oral and written communication, analysis/problem solving and advanced computer skills.
