Job summary

Kaiser Permanente in Portland, OR seeks an experienced Radiation Therapist to provide ionizing radiation per the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. You will deliver the prescribed therapy, perform simulation and localization procedures, manage care documentation, and mentor newer staff.

Responsibilities include patient education, daily QA, portal imaging, imaging transfer to charts, and strict radiation safety practices. Requires ARRT and Oregon licensure before hire.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program prior to the date of hire.
  • BLS certification within 1 month of hire; ARRT Certification - Radiation Therapy Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the prescribed, planned course of therapy.
  • Perform simulation/tumor localization procedures.
  • Schedule, carry out and document orders in the electronic chart.
  • Mentor new graduates as needed by the department.
  • Educate the patient on the procedure prior to performing.
  • Perform linear accelerator warm-up and daily QA checks.
  • Take weekly portal images for treatment verification; obtain physician sign-off.
  • Capture patient photos and treatment field photos for the chart.
  • Verify patient and chart IDs; prepare the treatment room and immobilization devices.

Job description

Job Summary:

Provide ionizing radiation in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Accurately delivers the prescribed, planned course of therapy.
  • Performs simulation/tumor localization procedures.
  • Orders for care are scheduled, carried out and documented in the electronic chart
  • Mentors New Graduate Radiation Therapists as needed by the department.
  • Educating the patient on the procedure prior to performing.
  • Responsible for linear accelerator warm-up and daily QA checks.
  • Take weekly portal images for treatment verification and have physician check.
  • Take patient photos and treatment field photos and transfer to patient chart.
  • Checks patient & chart identification, prepares the treatment room, sets up the immobilization devices, blocks, and tattoos patients.
  • Assures that the patient is seen by Oncologist weekly and more often if recognizes signs of treatment complication.
  • Observes and practices Radiation Safety Standards.
  • Maintains equipment and notifies service representative of any problems.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
  • Two-three (2-3) years of experience as Radiation Therapist.
Education
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program prior to the date of hire.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Radiation Therapist License (Oregon) OR Certified Radiologic Technologist (Washington)
  • Basic Life Support within 1 months of hire
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Radiation Therapy Technologist
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience on linear accelerators and simulators, use of a Record and Verify system.
  • Must be able to seamlessly administer radiation treatments according to the prescription and multi-task.
  • Familiar with the use of immobilization devices.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Possess excellent teamwork, organizational and customer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four-five (4-5) years experience as a Radiation therapist.
  • Experience with Varian Linear accelerators with MLC, Varis Record and Verify system, and CT simulation.
  • Experience with HDR, SRS, RapidArc and IMRT treatments.
  • Experience in the design and creation of blocks and immobilization devices.
  • Good oral and written communication, analysis/problem solving and advanced computer skills.
