Job summary

Therapist Intern at Cottonwood Tucson in Tucson, Arizona, assists Social Services with clinical services to clients and families as part of educational requirements.

Role includes supporting group therapies, potential supervision of student-led groups, and helping with discharge planning while pursuing a Master's degree in social work or related field.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work or related counseling field is required.
• Working towards a Master's degree from an accredited program is expected.
• Enrollment in a graduate program in social services or counseling is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist clinicians in group therapies (trauma groups, break work sessions, equine therapy, 12-step groups).
• Support psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions, and may run own groups for advanced students.
• Identify problems and design interventions to aid client transition back into the community.
• Conduct family therapy sessions and maintain contact with referral sources.
• Coordinate discharge and aftercare planning.

About the Job

The Therapist Intern works closely with Social Services Department staff and assists in providing clinical services to clients and their families as required by the intern's educational requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assists clinicians in conducting various group therapies, including but not limited to trauma process groups, break work sessions, equine therapy and 12-step group.
• Advanced students may have the opportunity to work with clients doing psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions and create/run their own groups.
• Identifies problems and creates interventions to facilitate client's transition back into the community.
• Conducts family therapy sessions.
• Maintains routine contact with referral sources and providers.
• Coordinates discharge and aftercare planning.

Working towards a Master's Degree in Social Work or related counseling field from an accredited Master's program required.
