Job summary

Cottonwood Tucson is seeking a Therapist Intern in Tucson, Arizona. The role collaborates with Social Services to deliver clinical services as part of educational requirements.

Interns assist in group therapies such as trauma processing and 12-step groups, may engage in psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions, and family therapy under supervision. Master’s coursework is required and supervision is provided.

Qualifications

• Working towards a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related counseling field from an accredited Master’s program required.
• Active involvement in clinical services to clients and families under supervision as part of internship.

Responsibilities

• Assist clinicians in conducting group therapies (trauma process groups, break work sessions, equine therapy, 12-step groups).
• Support psychosocial assessments and crisis interventions for eligible clients.
• Identify problems and create interventions to facilitate transitions back to the community.
• Conduct family therapy sessions as needed.
• Maintain routine contact with referral sources and providers.
• Coordinate discharge and aftercare planning.

About the Job:

The Therapist Intern works closely with Social Services Department staff and assists in providing clinical services to clients and their families as required by the intern’s educational requirements

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Assists clinicians in conducting various group therapies, including but not limited to trauma process groups, break work sessions, equine therapy and 12-step group.
• Advanced students may have the opportunity to work with clients doing psychosocial assessments, crisis interventions and create/run their own groups.
• Identifies problems and creates interventions to facilitate client’s transition back into the community.
• Conducts family therapy sessions.
• Maintains routine contact with referral sources and providers.
• Coordinates discharge and aftercare planning.

Working towards a Master’s Degree in Social Work or related counseling field from an accredited Master’s program required.
