Northern Michigan Alliance for Children is a stand-alone 501(c)(3) Child Advocacy Center based in Harrison, Michigan, serving children and families across underserved areas of the state. The organization provides trauma-informed services that support the investigation of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse through forensic interviews, victim advocacy, and coordinated multidisciplinary team (MDT) responses. Staff work closely with community members and investigative agencies to ensure a collaborative approach to child protection and healing. The team is dedicated to creating a community that does not tolerate child abuse and strives daily to promote safety, resilience, and hope for children. Role Description

The Therapist is a full-time, on-site role located in Harrison, MI, providing trauma-informed mental health services to children and families impacted by abuse and neglect. Daily responsibilities include conducting individual and family therapy sessions, completing clinical assessments, and developing treatment plans tailored to each child’s needs. The Therapist collaborates closely with MDT partners, including law enforcement, child protective services, medical professionals, and advocates, to support coordinated care and case planning. Additional tasks include maintaining accurate and timely documentation, participating in case review meetings, and contributing to outreach or educational efforts that promote child safety and trauma awareness. The role requires consistent professional boundaries, adherence to ethical standards, and a commitment to culturally responsive and strengths-based care.

Qualifications
  • Clinical skills in trauma-focused therapy, child and adolescent counseling, and family systems work, with experience supporting survivors of abuse and neglect.
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary team practices, child advocacy center models, and coordinated community responses to child maltreatment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively with children, caregivers, and partnering agencies.
  • Competence in documentation, case management, and use of electronic health records or similar systems.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field; appropriate state licensure or licensure eligibility preferred (e.g., LMSW, LPC, LLMSW, LLPC).
  • Training or certification in trauma-informed care, TF-CBT, or other evidence-based child trauma interventions is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, uphold professional ethics, and respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice with diverse children and families.
