Job summary

UCAN Academy and High School in Chicago operates two campuses in Humboldt Park and Auburn-Gresham as a year-round therapeutic day school for grades K-12. Small class sizes of 10 with a 5:1 student-to-staff ratio support individualized learning through comprehensive IEPs.

As a Special Education Teacher, you will develop IEPs, implement curricula, monitor progress, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to meet physical, emotional, and academic needs.

Qualifications

• Type 10 (ED/BD) certification required.
• Experience teaching all subjects in a self-contained environment.
• Ability to develop and implement IEPs.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements curriculum to meet physical, emotional and creative needs of students.
• Plans educational and developmental activities and a schedule within program outline.
• Diagnose educational needs using Kaufman method.
• Develops IEP based on the student’s unique situation.
• Develops IEPs that identify short and long-term learning and behavioral goals.
• Creates classroom lesson plans in accordance with students’ IEPs.
• Promotes orderly behavior and uses therapeutic methods to support social-emotional growth.
• Maintains relationships with students, parents, and staff and communicates progress regularly.
• Prepares documented lesson plans and maintains student records and assessments.
