Job summary

State of New Hampshire Hospital seeks a motivated Recreational Therapist II to plan and deliver recreational therapy services for acute psychiatric patients, promoting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being and recovery.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree with experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in therapeutic recreation, plus CTRS certification and NH licensure. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
• Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) and CTRS designation; NH licensure for Recreational Therapists; conditional license if not yet licensed.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Administers rehab assessments, discipline assessment and annual assessments to evaluate patient functioning; develops treatment plans and schedules.
• Develops, implements, documents, and monitors individualized recreational therapy programs to maximize patient functioning across social, cognitive, psycho-educational, physical, emotional areas.
• Plans and implements evening/weekend activities to meet social and leisure needs; schedules groups to meet individual goals.
• Plans and implements one special hospital event annually.
• Documents patient progress in medical records; uses EHR, emails, and reports.
• Collaborates with team, department staff, hospital personnel, and community agencies to ensure interdisciplinary services.
• Maintains safe treatment areas and equipment; requests supplies as needed.
• Participates in Quality Improvement activities; keeps current on best practices in Therapeutic Recreation.
• Supervises clinical interns and staff/volunteers; assists in orientation of new employees.
