Job summary

Wasatch Behavioral Health is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to support clients from children to adults across residential, crisis and outpatient settings. You’ll conduct assessments, create individualized plans and lead therapy activities to promote recovery.

This full-time position offers competitive pay and benefits in Utah. The role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation, practicum, Utah TRS license, and strong collaborative and documentation skills for EHRs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field required.
• Completion of an approved practicum and Utah TRS license required.
• Strong assessment, treatment planning and group facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct therapeutic recreation assessments and set goals.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
• Facilitate engaging therapeutic activities in groups and individually.
• Document services and progress in the EHR system.
• Evaluate progress and adjust interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Join Wasatch Behavioral Health as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) and make a meaningful impact by helping individuals build skills, improve quality of life, and work toward recovery through therapeutic recreation. This position offers a competitive wage of $23.58–$29.88/hour and provides the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and adults across residential, crisis, and outpatient settings. As a TRS, you'll conduct assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate therapeutic activities, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to support each client's unique goals. What You’ll Do as aTherapeutic Recreation Specialist

• Conduct therapeutic recreation assessments and identify client strengths, needs, and treatment goals.
• Develop and implement individualized recreation therapy treatment plans.
• Facilitate engaging therapeutic recreation activities in both group and individual settings.
• Document services, client progress, and interventions accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Evaluate client progress and adjust therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with therapists, case managers, medical providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide therapeutic recreation services across residential, crisis, and outpatient settings.
• Promote a safe, inclusive, and therapeutic environment while following ethical and professional standards.
• Supervise TRTs, interns, or other TRSs as assigned.
• Travel to agency clinics and treatment facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or an approved related field; a graduate degree is also acceptable.
• Completion of an approved practicum.
• Current Utah Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS) license.
• Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and the APIE(D) process.
• Understanding of behavioral health conditions and adaptive therapeutic interventions.
• Strong assessment, treatment planning, and group facilitation skills.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and crisis response skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of treatment settings.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to participate in recreational activities and perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, and lifting.
