Therapeutic Recreation Specialist / CTRS

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education. Assess capabilities, interests, and barriers through interviews. Monitor progress and modify programs as needed.
  • Consult with physicians and rehabilitation team members regarding therapeutic recreation goals. Coordinate activities and participate in care planning meetings.
  • Develop resources for recreational programs by communicating with community service organizations. Act as liaison to outside recreation agencies.
  • Design community reintegration activities to support physical and cognitive needs during recreational activities. Help clients understand and manage their needs and limitations.
  • Provide training to clients and involved staff, analyze, and document training results.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations, set measurable objectives, and adjust treatments to maximize results.
  • Apply professional standards to facilitate problem resolution and achieve individualized goals.
  • Report progress to staff, clients, and families. Observe and document changes in client conditions and report to relevant team members.
  • Document treatment progress and participate in team meetings. Develop, teach, and assess treatment plans, guiding other staff as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and share information responsibly. Collect data for program evaluation and improvement.
  • Participate in staff development, continuing education, and maintain clinical skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment evaluations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or equivalent, with at least two years of experience.
  • Knowledge of neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques. Ability to obtain National Therapeutic Recreational Specialist certification within one year. Maintain applicable licenses and certifications.
