Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

Our services include LIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly); skilled nursing, home health; personal care; adoption & foster care; assisted living; adult day services; memory care; hospice; palliative care; residential living; affordable housing; home safety monitoring; Meals on Wheels; rehabilitation services and private duty.

The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist works under broad supervision to assist in directing the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the activities program. Directing the activity program includes scheduling of activities, both individual and groups, implementing and/or delegating the implementation of the programs, monitoring the response and/or reviewing/evaluating the response to the programs to determine if the activities meet the assessed needs of the resident and making revisions as necessary. Responsible for assessment, care planning and implementation of the care plan for residents of St. John Community.


Qualifications

For Therapeutic Recreation Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Recreation Therapy, or equivalent experience as required by the NCTRC Board to achieve certification or B.S. in Art, Music or related therapy discipline.
  • Certification required: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC), Music, Art.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Word and Excel required.
