Acadia Healthcare is partnering with Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital in Malden, MA to recruit an Activity Therapist. The role focuses on planning and directing activity therapy within the patient’s treatment plan, using therapeutic activities to support recovery and well-being.

The candidate will assess needs through observations and interviews, lead sessions, and adapt programs to patient goals while ensuring safety and professional care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or certification in expressive therapy; or clinical licensure (LCPC, LPC) with relevant certification.
• CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required.
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
• Pay range: $30.44 to $36.00/hr.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to plan treatment.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities to support treatment goals.
• Lead activities including therapeutic leisure skills, education, and awareness.
• Facilitate sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities (sports, dance, art, relaxation) to meet needs.
• Develop treatment plans and activity interventions aligned with patient goals.
• Engage patients in therapy activities and community outings.
• Help patients learn social skills and independence.
• Modify activities for different groups and maintain a professional attitude.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field

Master’s degree preferred
