Northern Rivers Family of Services is seeking a Part-Time – Non Benefited Therapeutic Journaling Teaching Assistant/Aide in Albany, NY. The role supports students with emotional and behavioral challenges in a school setting and collaborates with a Therapeutic Journaling Facilitator.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least two years of experience working with students, with duties including classroom support, behavior monitoring, and incident reporting.

Responsabilidades

• Follow agency policies and regulations for school and students.
• Prepare materials and support the Therapeutic Journaling Facilitator.
• Monitor student behavior and assist with crisis prevention and de-escalation.
• Assist with behavior plans and incident reporting as requested.
• Supervise journaling sessions in classrooms and during field trips to maintain safety.
• Participate in PBIS implementation and Tier 2/3 strategies for select students.
• Attend trainings and maintain documentation, including attendance and student progress notes.
• Perform clerical tasks and maintain student progress records.

Responsibilities

• Follow all Agency policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations of our school and students.
• Prepare materials and collaborate with the Therapeutic Journaling Facilitator for student support needs.
• Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record behavior data as requested; assist with crisis prevention; assist with de-escalation techniques with students.
• Help implement behavior plans (BIP); record behavior data; and the completion of incident reports when requested.
• Monitor, oversee and assist students during their journaling program within a variety of school environments (e.g., journaling classroom, field trips, guest speakers) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Help implement classroom PBIS universal components and Tier 2 and Tier 3 strategies for selected students.
• Attend meetings, training, professional learning sessions (e.g., first aid, TCI, CPR, emergency procedures, behavior management) to enhance professional skills and competencies.
• Perform clerical tasks. Maintain records of student progress and write incident reports. File these reports and maintain student files. Additionally, check daily attendance and make copies. Develop classroom displays and instructional material. Finally, maintain and operate computers, smartboards, and other classroom equipment.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to incorporate information provided by parents, doctors, nurses, therapists and others to understand the needs of and provide services for students.
• Always monitor safety and well‑being of students; monitor student attitudes and encourage positive behavior and interactions with peers.
• Perform other related responsibilities as requested by the Therapeutic Journaling Facilitator and Principal.

Requirements and Education

• High School Diploma required.
• Work with students who demonstrate serious emotional and behavioral challenges, ages 6‑21.
• 2 years experience working with students in an educational setting.
