Job summary

M2 Healthcare is seeking an Activity Therapist to support the recreation team and interdisciplinary teams in meeting the emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents. You will design and implement therapeutic recreational activities for group and one-to-one sessions, including the creative arts, to stimulate participation and wellbeing.

You will assess residents, maintain progress notes, and collaborate with staff to tailor programs to individual needs while ensuring safety and timely

Qualifications

• Degree or knowledge in therapeutic recreation, music, art, drama, dance/movement, yoga, puppetry, etc. are required and a plus.
• Ability to play at least one musical instrument (keyboard, guitar, drum) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes, orients and interviews new residents.
• Designs and implements therapeutic recreation programs (group and one-to-one) including creative arts.
• Creates programs tailored to residents’ needs and updates recreation calendar accordingly.
• Provides scheduled therapeutic activities and records attendance promptly.
• Encourages voluntary resident participation in activities and events.
• Assists residents to join on- and off-site programs and ensures safety during activities.
• Initiates and maintains progress notes, MDS and care plans; ensures timely documentation.
• Uses behavioral techniques appropriate for dementia and other populations.
• Maintains punctuality and attendance; performs other duties as assigned.
