Job summary

Cal State East Bay is seeking a Performing Arts Technician I to support backstage technical operations for University Theatre events. The role covers lighting, sound, rigging, carpentry, and general stage production, including mounting department productions and servicing external events.

You will train and guide student assistants, maintain facilities and equipment, and ensure a safe work environment. Background checks are required and some lifting and hazardous material handling are part of

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in a theater, repertory or stock company in the applicable production specialty.
• Background/college coursework and practical experience in theatre is valued.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of stage lighting, live or pre-recorded sound, rigging and related theatre equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and assist backstage technical work for University Theatre events, including lighting, sound, rigging and light carpentry.
• Assist with mounting technical aspects of department productions or external events, including scenery, costumes, lights, sound, props and related tasks.
• Provide lead work direction to students and student assistants in shops or on stage, ensuring safety and efficient operations.
