The Police Athletic League, Inc. is seeking an experienced Teaching Artist – Theater/Dramatic Arts to design and deliver a dynamic theater program for middle and high school students.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of professional theater teaching experience.
  • Experience as actor, director, playwright, teaching artist, or theater educator.
  • Expertise in acting instruction, directing, improvisation, and production.
  • Experience developing curriculum and directing performances, showcases, festivals, or community productions.
  • Experience preparing students for public performances and auditions.
  • Experience working with adolescents in schools, after-school programs, community-based organizations, or youth development settings.
  • Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to mentor diverse youth in an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive theater curriculum for ages 13-18.
  • Teach core theater concepts and stage performance skills.
  • Develop lesson plans with measurable objectives.
  • Direct rehearsals and coach students for culminating performances.
  • Select or create scripts reflecting diverse perspectives.
  • Prepare students to perform before live audiences with professionalism.
  • Foster an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet varying experience levels.
  • Mentor students to build teamwork, leadership, and confidence.
  • Maintain attendance records and program documentation.
  • Coordinate performances and family engagement events.
