Job summary

UCLA's Theater Department seeks a capable Scene Shop Supervisor to oversee the department's Scene Shop, coordinating set builds, load in and strike for productions. You will organize shop personnel, schedules and inventories, ensure safety and maintain equipment and spaces.

You will collaborate with faculty, designers and technicians, provide skilled supervision, and adapt to a dynamic academic environment with variable hours.

Qualifications

• Plan, organize and supervise production prep and performances in an educational/professional setting.
• Expert knowledge of scenery technology and stage rigging practices.
• Manage equipment, space, material, staff and finances effectively.
• Independent work with timely delivery and prioritization under deadlines.
• Build cooperative relationships with students, faculty and guest artists.
• Explain facilities and operations clearly to individuals and groups.
• Engineered scenic elements with emphasis on safety and structures.
• Demonstrate pride, professionalism and commitment to excellence.
• Adapt to flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Proficient with AutoCAD; basic Vectorworks knowledge.
• Work safely at heights with ladders and lifts; use power tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage the Theater Scene Shop and coordinate with other production units for smooth set transitions.
• Organize scene shop personnel, scheduling, workflows and timelines for construction projects.
• Supervise scene shop use, security, and maintenance; manage storage and inventory.
• Contribute to facility maintenance and improvements as assigned by supervisor.
• Collaborate with design faculty, Technical Director and production staff on production readiness.
