Job summary

The West Side YMCA in New York City is seeking an Activity Specialist to deliver theater instruction within the afterschool program, including holiday camps. This part-time, regular role focuses on creating a safe, engaging environment for school-age children while fostering learning and personal growth.

You will plan age-appropriate activities, teach theater fundamentals, coordinate a culminating performance when applicable, and work with counselors, teachers, and other staff to support youth

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; college credits preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience with youth and theater activities.
• Formal certification in theater is required.
• General knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants with proper supervision.
• Plan and implement age-appropriate, engaging activities and events.
• Teach theater fundamentals to all grades in the afterschool program.
• Coordinate a culminating performance at cycle end, if applicable.
• Collaborate with counselors, staff, teachers, and school staff.
• Maintain an inclusive, welcoming environment and documentation.
