Position Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Project Designer to join our growing architectural team in Santa Barbara. This role is ideal for a highly organized design professional who can lead projects through construction documentation while coordinating consultants, clients, and permitting agencies. The candidate should be self-motivated and have strong design sensibilities, excellent technical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative studio environment.
Responsibilities
- Advance the design and development of residential and light commercial projects from schematic design through construction.
- Prepare complete construction document packages using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate architectural drawings with engineers and other consultants.
- Review consultant drawings for coordination and incorporate revisions into project documents.
- Prepare permit submittal packages and coordinate plan check responses with local jurisdictions.
- Research applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and municipal regulations.
- Assist with project scheduling and monitor progress to meet deadlines.
- Participate in client meetings and present design concepts, material selections, and project updates.
- Develop design studies, floor plans, elevations, details, and presentation graphics.
- Coordinate material selections and assist with interior and exterior finish integration.
- Perform field verification, site visits, and construction observations as required.
- Respond to RFIs, review submittals and shop drawings, and assist during construction administration.
- Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on drafting standards, detailing, and project coordination.
- Maintain organized project files and ensure quality control throughout all phases of design and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with principals, project managers, consultants, contractors, and clients.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional architectural experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and detailing.
- Experience coordinating engineering consultants throughout all phases of a project.
- Familiarity with California Building Code, residential codes, accessibility requirements, and local permitting processes.
- Experience preparing permit submittals and responding to plan check comments.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Experience with SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Twinmotion, or rendering software is a plus.
Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field preferred.
