Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist III, AEL Support (Grant) assists program staff with grant processes including test proctoring, initial advising for Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) programs, and organizing grant files. Supports student registration in grant-funded classes and provides clerical, analytical, and operational support under supervision. Work may be at various LSC campuses and community partner locations, with hours split based on grant needs.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation depends on ongoing grant funding. Professional development for TWC, HGAC, and LSCS is required by the deadline.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Proctors student placement testing
  2. Welcomes and supports prospective students and visitors professionally
  3. Advises on orientation and testing sessions, eligibility requirements
  4. Handles calls, messages, and transfers
  5. Registers students for classes including HSE/GED, ESL, workforce, and developmental education
  6. Provides resource information and referrals
  7. Manages departmental communications
  8. Processes enrollment documents and provides instructions for testing
  9. Supports operations and staff
  10. Contacts students and staff regarding class cancellations
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with software
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Expense documentation skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is primarily sedentary, involving sitting, with some walking, standing, bending, light carrying, or driving. No special physical demands are required.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Uses standard office equipment and software
  • Interacts with internal and external contacts
  • Performed in a climate-controlled office environment
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED with 3+ years of experience, or equivalent
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or higher

Salary

Hourly pay rate: $15.14
