Position: Food Runner
The Food Runner is responsible for providing exemplary service at the Oak. Duties include setting up for service and delivering food to guests in the restaurant. The Food Runner plays an essential role in enhancing the guest experience and supporting the resort’s goal of exceeding high guest expectations. Focus areas include remaining aware of the restaurant environment, engaging with guests, anticipating their needs, and taking initiative to improve their stay.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2–3 years of food & beverage experience in an upscale establishment.
- Positive, outgoing, and friendly personality.
- Ability to follow OVI standards of Presentation, Body Language, and Verbiage.
- Ability to work cohesively with team members.
- High school diploma.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle obstacles professionally and communicate effectively with management.
- Maintain professional appearance and behavior, demonstrating integrity and openness.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work, follow directions, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Knowledge of hotel standards, policies, and procedures.
- Discretion and confidentiality regarding guest and hotel information.
Essential Job Functions:
- Demonstrate knowledge of The Ojai Valley Inn’s style, practices, culture, and philosophy.
- Maintain a friendly yet unobtrusive manner with guests.
- Attend all required meetings and ensure HR policies are applied consistently.
- Promote teamwork and handle guest complaints professionally.
- Recognize and address intoxicated or disruptive guests.
- Handle and report employee and guest accidents properly.
- Respond to hotel emergencies and safety situations.
- Perform tasks assigned by management.
- Maintain appearance, attitude, and professionalism according to standards.
- Follow payroll and uniform procedures.
- Provide guests with an enjoyable dining experience, knowledgeable about the menu.
- Prepare all condiments, bread, and plates prior to service.
- Ensure food delivery within a timely manner and communicate delays to servers and management.
- Review tickets before leaving the kitchen and serve food and beverages from the correct sides.
- Clear tables efficiently and offer further assistance to guests.
- Ascertain guest satisfaction and report any issues to management.
- Adhere to schedule, uniform, and appearance standards.
- Report unsafe conditions and respect guest confidentiality.
- Anticipate guest needs and assist proactively.
- Support servers, Bussers, and kitchen staff as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage and service areas.
Secondary Functions:
The pay for this position is $16.50/hr plus gratuities.
