Job Summary

The Kitchen at The Houstonian Club is the member’s eatery to celebrate the joy of camaraderie and family gatherings, embracing the feeling of home. The menu was created thoughtfully with hearty and healthy options for all tastes. Open breakfast to dinner, The Kitchen becomes the heart and soul of the socials at The Houstonian Club. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist members and guests with food and drink service.
• Take food and drink orders correctly.
• Ring up orders accurately in the POS system.
• Be passionate about hospitality, food, and have menu knowledge; describe all menu items to create a great dining experience.
• Identify food allergies and make proper recommendations.
• Recommend food pairings with wine.
• Deliver a memorable dining experience by resolving all customer issues promptly.
• Prepare guests’ drink orders and expedite food when a food runner is not available.
• Maintain table setting by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
• Stock up stations with all necessary supplies.
• Assist with tidying tables, clearing leftovers, and keeping dining areas neat and pleasant.
• Servers must wear assigned uniforms, be clean, pressed, and with their own name tag.
• Servers are responsible for completing closing shift reports and duties.
• Protect the establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

• High School Diploma is preferred.
• Minimum one year of previous server experience in a fine dining restaurant.
• Must be 18 years of age; current T.A.B.C. certification preferred.
• Ability to perform daily work at a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledge of alcohol beverages and wine.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Physical Job Requirements

Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:

• Physical stamina: frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 10‑30 lbs in a fast‑paced kitchen environment with moderate or loud noise, extreme temperatures, and slick floor surfaces.
• Hearing/Speech: effectively engage in one‑on‑one communication with guests, members, and customers; use a two‑way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co‑workers.
• Vision: accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets; work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
• Literacy: produce, read, and understand reports, including security, incident, and police reports; analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and communicate content effectively.
• Chemicals/Agents: work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
