Job Summary
The Kitchen at The Houstonian Club is the member’s eatery to celebrate the joy of camaraderie and family gatherings, embracing the feeling of home. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist members and guests with food and drinks service.
- Take food and drink orders correctly and ring them up in the POS system.
- Demonstrate passion for hospitality, food, and menu knowledge; describe all menu items to enhance the dining experience.
- Identify food allergies and make proper recommendations.
- Recommend food pairings with wine.
- Deliver a memorable dining experience by resolving all customer issues promptly.
- Prepare guests’ drink orders and expedite food when a food runner is not available.
- Maintain table settings by removing finished courses, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses, and being alert to patron spills or other special needs.
- Stock stations with all necessary supplies.
- Assist with tidying tables, clearing leftovers, and keeping dining areas neat and pleasant.
- Wear assigned uniforms, be clean and pressed, and display an appropriate name tag.
- Complete closing shift reports and perform related duties.
- Protect the establishment and patrons by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol beverage control policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- High School Diploma is preferred.
- Minimum one year of previous server experience in a fine dining restaurant.
- Must be 18 years of age; current T.A.B.C. certification is preferred.
- Ability to perform daily work at a high level of accuracy.
- Knowledge of alcoholic beverages and wine.
- Good at taking direction.
- Attention to detail.
- Comfortable memorizing orders and specials.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional appearance and behavior.
- Interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient technology skills in the POS system.

- Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.
Licenses and Certifications
- TABC Certification is required.
Physical Job Requirements
- Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 10-30 lbs. Work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with moderate to loud noise, extreme temperatures, and slick floor surfaces.
- Hearing / Speech: Effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
- Vision: Accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets; use computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
- Literacy: Produce, read, and understand reports, including security, incident, and police reports; analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate the content of reports.
- Chemicals / Agents: Work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
