Job description

Grades: Pre Primary, Primary, or Pre kindergarten (ages 2-6)

Reports to: Early School Division Director

Role Duration: 10 months, full time at an hourly rate of compensation

School Day: 7:30am to 3:30pm with the occasional faculty meeting from 3:45pm to 4:45pm

Position Summary: Ashley Hall School seeks a committed and professional Early Childhood Associate Teacher, who, working in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, will be instrumental in creating and implementing a dynamic daily program for young children based on the school's philosophy and values, using constructivist theory and inspirations from Reggio Emilia. The Associate teacher will be responsible for supporting the Lead teacher in planning, curriculum and instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, technology, and social studies, participating in collaborations with colleagues within the Early School division and throughout the school as a whole, and co-preparing documentation for students and families.

Other key responsibilities include working with the Lead Teacher to

  • build relationships with each child and their family
  • provide a positive learning environment for children
  • co-create opportunities for growth of the whole child
  • co-teach problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • assess students' learning and to document it through digital media, and portfolios
  • co-plan curriculum to be age, stage, and individually appropriate
  • provide differentiated learning
  • co-design and deliver a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy that engages and honors all learners and embraces diverse perspectives
  • partner with parents about their child's progress
  • maintain a clean and orderly classroom, common areas and playground

Additionally, the Associate teacher attends all staff meetings and participates in required professional development opportunities.

Physical Demands

  • While reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role, this work involves approximately 50% standing/moving about the classroom and 50% bending and lifting. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for periods of time, sit on the floor, and be active for up to 6 hours/day is required.

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Experience in independent schools
  • Familiarity or experience teaching in a Reggio Program
  • Programme or have training in Reggio approach and STEAM
  • A commitment to differentiated learning and a strong pedagogical approach to supporting diverse learners
  • A commitment to a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy to engage and honor all learners and embrace diverse perspectives
