Job Objective

Under supervision, performs routine educational and interpretive services at San Jacinto Monument and Battleground State Historic Sites, including developing programs, conducting tours, and engaging with visitors to promote the site's history and increase visitation.

Essential Duties
  1. Create and implement interpretive programs for various audiences.
  2. Assist with planning and organizing events.
  3. Greet visitors, provide orientation, and conduct tours.
  4. Modify and improve existing programs and exhibits.
  5. Research and develop new outreach programs.
  6. Perform research related to site collections and resources.
  7. Monitor program compliance and effectiveness.
  8. Develop evaluation processes for programs.
  9. Participate in volunteer recruitment and training.
  10. Maintain records and prepare reports on programs.
  11. Conduct outreach both on and off-site.
  12. Build relationships with education stakeholders.
  13. Provide living history demonstrations and dress in historic costumes.
  14. Collaborate with community organizations for programming.
  15. Write articles and speak publicly to promote the site.
  16. Utilize social media and digital tools for interpretation.
  17. Supervise interns and volunteers as needed.
  18. Assist in marketing efforts, including creating advertisements and social media posts.
  19. Assist with site maintenance and housekeeping.
  20. Train others and develop training materials.
  21. Adhere to work schedule and safety guidelines.
Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's degree in education, history, museum studies, or related field; minimum one-year relevant experience; valid driver’s license; ability to travel up to 15%.

Preferred: Master’s degree, certification in interpretive techniques, experience with educational programs, proficiency in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of American history (1820-1870), regional history, interpretation strategies, cultural resource management, TEKS; skills in communication, research, curriculum development, public speaking, customer service, operating computers; abilities in problem-solving, multitasking, working independently and as part of a team, and maintaining confidentiality.

Additional Requirements

Valid driver’s license, ability to work outdoors in varied weather, lift up to 50 pounds, work irregular hours, respond to emergencies, and travel as needed.
