Job summary

Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan is seeking a Textile Production Employee to process donations and prepare items for resale. You will work with a small team to sort, tag, and prepare merchandise, supporting community job training and services.

This full-time, non-exempt position operates Monday through Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm, with benefits including employee discounts and a focus on safe, efficient production standards.

Qualifications

  • No experience is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and use a pallet jack.

Responsibilities

  • Sort donated merchandise and determine quality textiles to hang or store.
  • Hang and tag items to meet production standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and report injuries or hazards.
  • Assist Production Supervisor with shipping and receiving between locations.
  • Label carts and Gaylords as SEASONAL or BALE per instruction.

Purpose or General Objective:

To sort, hang, and tag donated merchandise while meeting GICMH production standards.

  • Continually serve as a positive role model for all employees, participants, and customers working with and for Goodwill Industries.
  • Sort through donated goods while determining quality textile and bin to hang and seasonal merchandise to store.
  • Continually hang and tag textile and maintain a level of processing performance of at least 80 pieces per hour with no more than 5% bale.
  • Correctly label carts and Gaylords as “SEASONAL” or “BALE”, or as directed.
  • Assist the Production Supervisor with shipping and receiving between locations.
  • Transfer Z-Racks, carts, and Gaylords to the appropriate staging area within the processing area.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly work environment by following safety procedures and reporting injuries and safety hazards.
  • Maintain good housekeeping skills, including sweeping and cleaning the work area at the end of the shift.
  • Perform 5-Minute Drills at workstations.
Requirements
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to reach, bend, twist, and lift up to 30 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to use a pallet jack.

Summary

We are searching for someone dependable to join our team. As a Textile Production Employee you will process donations collected from the community and get them ready to sell in the stores. This helps people in that community and others in Central Michigan get work experience, job training, and other services.

You will be working with a small team in a production environment. We collect a variety of items from household goods to clothing. You should feel comfortable handling used and donated goods in this position and have the ability to lift and carry items of various sizes.
