Job summary

Goodwill Industries Of Northern Il is seeking a part-time associate to support textiles processing in the McHenry store. The role involves sorting textiles, examining condition, and ensuring only high-quality items reach the sales floor. You will apply pricing guidance and maintain a clean, safe work area.

The position requires standing and bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and weekend/evening availability in a retail environment. Training on store criteria will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Product Knowledge: processes textiles (clothing, linens, bedding) and sorts by quality; identifies high-value items and prices accordingly.
  • Time Management: maintains productivity and records number of pieces processed against minimum production targets.
  • Safety: uses tagging gun to tag pieces; follows safety standards and keeps area clean and safe.
  • Other: communicates respectfully, follows Kaizen processes, maintains workstation supplies, and supports general store duties.

Responsible for all duties as assigned by the Store Manager, including sorting textiles (soft goods, clothing, bedding, linens), examining product for condition, and ensuring the best highest quality textiles are put on the sales floor.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • Product Knowledge
    \tProcesses textiles (clothing, linens, bedding). This includes sorting based on store criteria minimizing trash and salvaging while focusing on quality.
    \tIdentifies items that are priced by management, i.e. high value or unique items. Utilize computer to price items of value to price accordingly.
  • Time Management
    \tMaintains productivity as demonstrated by meeting minimum production numbers as established and communicated by management.
    \tTracks and records number of pieces processed.
  • Safety
    \tUses tagging gun to appropriately tag all pieces.
    \tConsistently follows established safety rules. Reports safety accidents and hazards when known and in a timely manner. Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work area. Utilizes the proper equipment and supplies in meeting the safety standards.
  • Other
    \tResponsive and respectful towards others within the organization. Promotes internal and external customer service through effective communication. Displays appropriate behavior (courteous and respectful interactions) with fellow employees.
    \tFollows established processes according to Kaizen standards.
    \tMaintains workstation supplies.
    \tCompletes work station 5 minute clean up daily.
    \tDemonstrates regard for Goodwill’s assets including property, and equipment.

Environment

This position is based in a retail store environment. Duties include work in the warehouse area, which can involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and the physical handling of goods. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending and lifting, and the ability to safely move merchandise and materials. Weekend and evening work required.

Sensory and Physical Requirements

Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Use of both hands. Good manual and finger dexterity. Ability to visually inspect and eliminate non-saleable donations.
