Job summary

BHS in Texas is seeking an experienced Head Rigger to own and execute complex lifts on high-value equipment moving projects across the US. You will plan, coordinate, and direct all lifting activities while leading a crew of riggers and ensuring safe, precise moves from start to finish.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong rigging knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with crane operators and site personnel. Travel up to 50% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial rigging or machinery-moving experience.
  • Experience leading a rigging crew as Head Rigger/Lead Rigger/Foreman/Supervisor.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex lifts.
  • Solid understanding of load calculations, sling angles, load control, and rigging capacities.
  • Experience handling heavy industrial or high-value equipment.
  • Ability to inspect and select appropriate rigging hardware and lifting equipment.
  • Strong crane signals, lift communication, and site-safety procedures.
  • Ability to read lift plans, equipment drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Willingness for overtime and up to 50% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and direct all lifting, moving, positioning, and setting activities.
  • Lead riggers and rigger helpers through each phase of the project.
  • Determine load weights, centres of gravity, sling angles, and rigging configurations.
  • Select, inspect, and document slings, shackles, chains, hoists, spreader bars, and related hardware.
  • Develop lift plans and verify load capacities and site conditions.
  • Conduct pre-lift meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard assessments.
  • Brief the crew on daily responsibilities and lift plans.
  • Direct lifts using hand signals and radio communication.
  • Coordinate with crane, forklift, equipment operators, and site personnel.
  • Monitor exclusion zones, travel paths, overhead hazards, and evolving site conditions.
  • Ensure rigging equipment is inspected and taken out of service when required.
  • Step in with hands-on support when needed.
  • Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise.
