Job summary

ESAB Corporation seeks a Test Welder / Lab Technician to weld test assemblies for qualification and conformance testing of ESAB welding consumables used in ASME SEC III Nuclear and NAVSEA orders.

Responsibilities include setting up machines, preparing plates and weld specimens, and welding in flat, vertical and overhead positions to determine characteristics and properties. Collaboration with engineers and strict safety adherence are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent, with 5-8 years of job-related welding experience.
• Excellent welding skills in MIG, TIG, and stick in all positions.
• Familiar with Oxy-fuel process and weld metal testing requirements.
• Ability to interpret governing specifications and select appropriate parameters.

Responsibilities

• Weld test assemblies for qualification and conformance testing of ESAB welding consumables.
• Prepare machine setups, plates and weld specimens for testing.
• Weld test specimens in multiple positions to evaluate operating characteristics and mechanical properties.
• Collaborate with engineers to assess weld quality and conformance for customer tests.
• Notify supervisors of electrodes not meeting weldability standards and operate laboratory equipment.
• Perform a variety of laboratory tests on materials and assist in scheduling workflow.
• Adhere to safety policies and assist with other projects as directed by the Test Lab Supervisor.

Position: Test Welder / Lab Technician

Reports to: Supervisor, QA, Product Compliance and Tested Orders

Primary Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

• Responsible for all aspects related to welding of test assemblies for purpose of qualification and conformance testing of ESAB welding consumables for ASME SEC III Nuclear and Critical Navsea Military orders.


• Prepares own set up of machine, plate and weld specimens for completion of test.


• Welds test specimens in flat, vertical and overhead position to determine operating characteristics, chemical composition, radiographic quality, and mechanical properties.


• Selects the most effective parameters and technique to be used within the guidelines of the governing specification.


• Works with an engineer to evaluate quality of weld and conformance to requirements for customer sales testing, and research.


• Notifies supervisor or engineers of electrodes being tested that do not meet the weldability standards of ESAB.


• Operates a variety of laboratory equipment.


• Performs a variety of laboratory tests of materials.


• Assist supervision in scheduling flow of work and assurance that assignments are completed.


• Duties may vary, depending upon the area of work and the assignments of that area or areas.


• Other projects as directed by the Test Lab Supervisor.


• Adhere to all safe work practices and/or safety policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 5-8 years of job-related experience in welding.


• Requires excellent skills in all types of welding, knowledge of metals, ability to determine technique and equipment to be used.


• Must be able to weld MIG, TIG, and stick in all positions as applicable.


• Experience with Oxy-fuel process


• Needs to be familiar with our various specifications governing weld metal testing.


• Good knowledge of mathematics and /or mechanical aptitude.


• Computer use required.
