Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Mossville, IL is seeking a Test & Validation Engineer to support the Resource Industries Transmission Development Team.

You will contribute to design and validation of drivetrain control systems for powershift transmissions in hauling, cycling, and oil & gas applications. The role offers onsite work five days a week at the Technical Center - Building G, with relocation assistance and visa sponsorship not available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in engineering, computer science, or materials science.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Experience planning, validating, and optimizing control systems.
  • Knowledge of drivetrain controls or transmission systems is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work with design, development, and software engineers to create, develop, and optimize hardware and controls for powershift transmissions.
  • Plan and execute on-machine control software calibration and validation.
  • Manage control system requirements, specifications, and design reviews.
  • Design clutch control strategies to meet performance and durability targets.
  • Perform simulations for clutch control systems.
  • Collect and analyze data to understand and optimize controls performance.

Role Definition

Caterpillar's Integrated Drivetrain Energy Solutions Division is looking for a Test & Validation Engineer to support the Resource Industries Transmission Development Team for drivetrain control systems & validation. In the role, you will contribute to the design and development of transmission and torque converter control systems for hauling, cycling, and oil & gas applications. You will be provided the unique opportunity to directly impact machine performance and durability for a variety of drivetrain programs.

What You Will Do
  • Working with design, development, systems integration, and software engineers to create, develop, and optimize hardware and controls for powershift transmissions.
  • Planning and executing on-machine control software calibration and validation.
  • Managing control system requirements, specifications, and design reviews.
  • Designing clutch control strategies to meet drivetrain performance and durability targets.
  • Performing simulation for clutch control systems.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to understand and optimize controls performance.
Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering, computer science, or materials science curriculum.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
Top candidates will also have
  • Controls development tools and process experience (Powershift transmission controls preferred)
  • Ability and interest in working in a varying environment (field/shop/lab)
  • Ability to operate machines (after training)
