Job Title: Electrical Panel Tester
Job Description
This role focuses on conducting detailed testing of electrical controllers and control panels before final approval and shipment to customers. You will follow established procedures, use electrical test equipment, and document all results to ensure panels meet quality and safety standards. The position involves working around potentially energized equipment, so you will consistently use appropriate PPE, follow safety protocols, and adhere to lockout/tagout procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct functional and electrical testing on controllers and control panels prior to final approval and shipment.
- Monitor testing of panels and controls to verify proper operation and compliance with specifications.
- Perform thermography testing as required and interpret results according to established procedures.
- Follow written testing procedures and programs accurately and consistently.
- Connect and disconnect various cables and electrical connections safely and correctly.
- Use multimeters, continuity testers, and basic electrical test equipment to verify voltages, continuity, and proper wiring.
- Identify wiring errors, component failures, and other issues, and elevate or troubleshoot as appropriate.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings to verify that assemblies match design requirements.
- Document all testing activities using both paper and electronic systems, including computers, logs, cameras, and router sheets.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times when working around energized or potentially energized equipment.
- Comply with all PPE requirements and maintain a strong focus on electrical and workplace safety.
- Use quality checklists and inspection criteria to confirm that panels meet quality standards before release.
- Adhere to production expectations for safety, efficiency, and quality.
- Use common hand and power tools, including drills and torque tools, as needed during testing and verification.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying and communicating improvement ideas.
- Apply knowledge of the Red Tag system to identify, tag, and manage nonconforming product or issues.
- Support 5S and LEAN practices by maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient work area.
- Operate pallet jacks, including electric pallet jacks, to move materials or panels safely when needed.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to meet daily testing schedules and production goals.
- Use touchscreen interfaces and testing equipment as part of the testing and documentation process.
Essential Skills
- Experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting, including the use of multimeters, continuity testers, and basic electrical test equipment.
- Ability to read voltage measurements and identify wiring errors and component failures.
- Understanding of electrical safety principles and hazards when working around energized equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
- Ability to verify work against drawings and ensure assemblies match design requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, including following test procedures exactly and verifying wire numbers, connections, and component placement.
- Ability to complete accurate and thorough documentation, both paper and electronic.
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ability to apply them consistently.
- Demonstrated PPE compliance and commitment to working safely.
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical and electrical sub-assembly techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical layout drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and quality checklists.
- Proficiency in using common hand and power tools, including drills and torque tools.
- Ability to use pallet jacks, including electric pallet jacks.
- Basic understanding of daily 5S and LEAN practices.
- Ability to follow all company safety standards and policies.
- Capability to meet production expectations for safety, efficiency, and quality adherence.
- Ability to work both as a team player and independently.
