Job summary

ABM Industries is hiring an Electrical Field Test Technician in Charlotte, NC. The role involves safe installation and testing of electrical power distribution equipment, with travel about 25% of the time. You will work with a crew and independently, handling routine to complex tasks and preparing field service reports.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience in electrical testing.
• Experience working on projects and in a team environment.
• Familiar with NFPA70E electrical safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data.
• Track project scope completion and communicate with ABM and customer management.
• Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low/medium/high-voltage equipment.
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and test motor control centers.
• Test/inspect high voltage cable installations and transformer equipment.
• Document test results and complete field reports; rotate on-call duty.

Job description

ABM Industries is seeking an Electrical Field Test Technician (NETA or NICET 2 or equivalent) to join our Electrical Power Services team in Charlotte, NC. The Electrical Field Test Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient installation and testing of electrical power distribution equipment for customers in the assigned territory. In this role, you will travel approximately 25% of the time, working both independently and with a crew, and handle the performance and management of routine, moderately complex, and complex tasks and projects, record-keeping, evaluation of test data, and preparation of field service reports. Additionally, Level 3 Technicians will be responsible to coach, mentoring, training, developing, and supervising Level 1 and 2 Trainees and Assistants.

Position Summary

Pay: $40.00 - $47.00 hourly + plus available paid overtime.

Essential Functions

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data on electrical systems.
• Track project scope completion and communicate ABM and Customer Management
• Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
• Test and inspect low, medium, and high-voltage cable installations.
• Maintain, test, and repair transformers and related equipment.
• Conduct low and medium-voltage motor control center and contractor testing.
• Start-up, troubleshoot, and repair generator controls and transfer schemes.
• Test and commission protection and control systems on high voltage substations.
• Sample and interpret insulated fluids.
• Review and submit timecards, expense, and project reports.
• Document test results and complete field reports.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty.
• Maintain strict compliance with regulatory laws
• Assist in the sales process acting as the technical expert in electrical testing and maintenance of electrical equipment

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in electrical testing.
• The candidate should have experience working with a team.
• Experience in working on projects
• Familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards
• Familiar with NFPA70E Electrical Safety standards
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical performance deficiencies
• Ability to travel regionally 25%
• Knowledgeable in lockout/tag-out and hazardous energy control procedures.
• Clean Driving Record and Drug-Free

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards
• Hold a current NETA Level 2 or NICET equivalent, or equivalent experience
