Job summary

Penguin Solutions in Newark, CA, is seeking a Test Software Developer to design, build, and maintain automated testing frameworks for advanced motherboards with emphasis on DRAM, thermal characterization, and AI inference workloads.

You will translate hardware validation needs into reliable software tools, collaborate with Hardware Engineering, Validation, and Manufacturing teams, and use Cursor together with GitLab and GitHub to ensure high-quality, maintainable test code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or ECE or related field with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Understanding of motherboard architectures, BIOS/UEFI operations, and hardware/software integration.
• Experience with automated hardware test software, including DRAM stress and thermal characterization.
• Experience configuring enterprise server hardware for AI inference and workload testing.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash for test automation, logging, and validation workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy automated testing frameworks for server motherboards.
• Develop Python, Bash, and Linux-based applications interacting with BIOS/UEFI and hardware.
• Create testing methods for DRAM performance, stability, margining, and thermal tests.
• Configure server systems to run AI inference and heavy workload testing.
• Script with ipmitool, dmidecode, and i2c-tools to monitor hardware.
• Use Cursor to accelerate development, debugging, and documentation with quality reviews.
• Collaborate via GitLab/GitHub with branches, MRs, reviews, and issue tracking.
• Work with Hardware Eng., Validation, and Manufacturing to translate diagnostics into reusable tools.
