Job summary

Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries in Chicago, IL, is seeking a Quality Technician to support product quality on the night shift through testing, inspection, and quality monitoring. You will oversee ultrasonic testing processes, non-conforming material, and auditing inspection functions.

The role requires attention to detail, technical skills, and a commitment to high manufacturing standards. Training is provided to maintain safety and quality across shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or some college preferred.
• Familiarity with computers and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
• Strong communication skills and ability to read/interpret safety rules and manuals.
• Basic math skills and ability to prepare routine reports.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples from mill areas for testing and evaluation.
• Prepare samples for mechanical and quality testing.
• Operate and maintain testing lab equipment and machinery.
• Enter testing results into SAP accurately.
• Maintain safe work practices and report unsafe conditions.

About the Role

As a Quality Technician at Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries, Chicago, IL, this role is responsible for supporting product quality on the designated shift through testing, inspection, and quality monitoring activities. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position plays a key role in overseeing ultrasonic testing processes, managing non-conforming material, and auditing inspection functions. This role is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, technically skilled, and committed to maintaining high-quality manufacturing standards.

What You’ll Do

• Collect samples from mill areas for testing and evaluation
• Prepare samples for required mechanical and quality testing
• Operate and maintain testing lab equipment and machinery
• Use measuring tools such as tape measures and micrometers to verify specifications
• Enter mechanical testing results into SAP accurately
• Perform work in compliance with company safety policies and report unsafe conditions
• Communicate ongoing quality and departmental issues to the Quality Supervisor
• Notify Quality Technicians or management of testing issues, including failures or equipment malfunctions
• Report machine issues to maintenance personnel and quality leadership
• Maintain housekeeping and organization of the work area
• Train other employees as assigned by the supervisor
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Who You Are

• High school diploma or some college education, preferred
• Familiarity with computers, email, and Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
• Strong communication skills with the ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedures, and equipment manuals
• Ability to prepare routine reports and effectively communicate with team members
• Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and working with fractions and decimals
• Flexibility to work in an industrial environment and extended hours as needed
• Physical Abilities: Stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms throughout the shift; Lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull as required; Lift up to 50 pounds; Work in a manufacturing or industrial environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles; Work in occasional wet or humid conditions; Work in a loud environment requiring appropriate safety precautions
