Job summary

Atlas Tube, a Zekelman Industries company, is seeking a Quality Supervisor in Birmingham, AL. You will lead the Quality Department, partner with operations, ensure products meet customer and industry quality standards, and drive continuous improvement while supporting safety and operational excellence.

You will manage inspections, maintain the Quality Management System, mentor staff, back up NDT operations, coordinate with customers and sales on technical guidance, and travel as needed to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Quality role, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Manufacturing experience, preferably within the steel, pipe, or tube industry.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with Non-destructive Examination (NDE) processes and API products preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality team in support of the Quality Manager.
  • Provide coverage for the Quality Manager and Quality Leads during planned absences.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and operating properly.
  • Support and provide backup for inline non-destructive testing (NDT) operations.
  • Flex across all shifts as business needs require, with primary responsibility on day shift.
  • Ensure required inspections are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Review and disposition nonconforming material and coordinate rework activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with customers regarding product quality issues and technical information.
  • Partner with the Sales team to provide technical product support and quality-related guidance.
  • Train and mentor Quality personnel on inspection procedures, quality standards, and departmental processes.
  • Assist the Shipping Department with inspections as needed.
  • Travel to support business and customer requirements as necessary.
  • Lead and promote safe work practices in accordance with OSHA regulations and company policies.

About The Role

As a Quality Supervisor at Atlas Tube in Birmingham, AL, you will provide leadership and oversight for the Quality Department while partnering closely with operations to ensure products consistently meet customer and industry quality standards. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this role is responsible for supporting quality personnel, maintaining quality systems, overseeing inspections, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You will also serve as a technical resource for internal teams and customers while promoting a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.


What You'll Do


  • Lead the Quality team in support of the Quality Manager.

Who You Are

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Quality role, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.

  • Manufacturing experience, preferably within the steel, pipe, or tube industry.


Knowledge, Skills & Competencies


  • Strong understanding of product specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards.

  • Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

  • Experience with Non-destructive Examination (NDE) processes and API products preferred.

  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and quality management software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities with the ability to coach and develop team members.

  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Professional, dependable, and committed to continuous improvement and operational excellence.


Physical Abilities


  • Ability to walk throughout a manufacturing facility for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand, bend, climb, and inspect production operations as needed.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and move materials or testing equipment.

  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.

  • Ability to travel as business needs require.
