Job summary

La-Z-Boy Inc. is seeking a Testing Technician to conduct ISO 17025-compliant tests on furniture products, collaborate with engineering for independent test results, and ensure procedures meet ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, and other standards.

You will calibrate equipment, maintain records, and support continuous improvement in the lab. The role requires the ability to train lab staff, analyze data, and work cross-functionally with product development, engineering, supply chain, and QA teams.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent with 2–4 years in testing/QA in furniture/manufacturing
  • Attention to detail with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Experience/training in PLC programming (Ladder Logic) and data recording

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests on furniture products per industry standards (ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, BS, EN)
  • Analyze test results and compile detailed reports with actionable insights
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment for accuracy
  • Provide training to lab technicians and support continuous improvement
  • Create/testing fixtures to meet ISO 17025 requirements

This role will collaborate with new product development teams and engineering to provide independent test results on product and component testing.Job Description:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):Conduct various tests on furniture products, including mechanical strength, durability, and safety assessments, as required by ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, BS, EN, federal and global regulations following established protocolsAnalyze test results and compile findings into detailed reports, providing actionable insights to design and engineering teamsEnsure testing procedures comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ANSI/BIFMA, ASTM, ISO, UL, BS, EN) and prepare documentation for regulatory complianceWork closely with cross-functional teams, including new product development, engineering, supply chain, and quality assurance, to support product development and troubleshoot issuesMaintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability, troubleshooting any issues as they ariseProvide some training to and lab technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learningIdentify opportunities for enhancing testing methodologies and processes, contributing to continuous improvement initiativesMaintain accurate records of tests performed, results obtained, and any modifications made to testing proceduresCreate, fabricate and restore testing fixtures to ensure ongoing performance meets ISO 17025 requirementsAdhere to safety protocols and procedures in the lab to maintain a safe working environment for all team membersSCOPE & IMPACT:This position provides leadership to Test lab Technician I-II, and supports the Test Lab in conducting, analyzing and recording testing, collaborating with lab customers to ensure objectives are met, maintains equipment, sets a standard for reliability, work ethic and consistency in lab operations.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Associate's degree in related field with 2-4 years of experience in a testing or quality assurance role, preferably within the furniture or manufacturing industry, or equivalentStrong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectivelyExperience or training in PLC programming (Ladder Logic)Basic knowledge of mechanical principles and material propertiesGood communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentProficiency in using standard lab equipment and software for data recording and analysisPREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:Experience mentoring/teaching others.Proficient ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues in test equipment.Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis softwareSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NonePHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion (such as typing), hear, listen, talk, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, balance, reach overhead, crawl, pill, push and lift – up to 50 pounds. Seldom required to climb stairs, climb ladders or Lift up to 75 pounds.
