Job summary

Rolls-Royce plc in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Test Instrumentation Engineer – Technical Specialist with 5+ years in technical roles to lead instrumentation design and program management on flagship programs.

You will interface with instrumentation lab, assembly floor, and engine test teams, owning sensor development, data collection, and troubleshooting while promoting best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in technical roles.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field with 3+ years of experience in technical roles.
  • PhD in Engineering or related field.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance (USA Citizenship).

Responsibilities

  • Establish a test instrumentation plan within program requirements for sensor implementation on components, subsystems, and engines.
  • Communicate test instrumentation progress and plans to business programs as required.
  • Own the test instrumentation design, development, and measurement technology ownership.
  • Assist with test article assembly and test stand installation for proper instrumentation routing.
  • Write department procedures to improve efficiency and capture lessons learned, and train less experienced engineers.
  • Train and mentor others in instrumentation and specialist areas.
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of instrumentation and special measurement equipment.
  • Define and implement best practices in instrumentation across the organization.
  • Solve complex measurement challenges to drive product validation.

Position Summary:

A new position has arisen for a Test Instrumentation Engineer - Technical Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship Rolls-Royce programs and play a vital role in solving some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in the industry while being part of a global team. As a Test Instrumentation Engineer – Technical Specialist you will be responsible for instrumentation design, program management, oversight of sensor application, sensor development and measurement technology ownership. This is a dynamic hands-on role with direct interface with the instrumentation lab, assembly floor and engine test teams.

What you will be doing:
  • To establish a test instrumentation plan within program requirements for sensor implementation on component, subsystem, and whole engine testing
  • To communicate test instrumentation progress and plans to business programs as required
  • To own the test instrumentation design, development, process for application, measurement technology and test data collection troubleshooting as required
  • To assist with test article assembly and test stand installation processes for proper instrumentation routing and signal identification
  • Write department procedures as necessary to improve efficiency and capture lessons learned, as well as help train and develop less experienced engineers
  • Train and mentor others in instrumentation, special measurement equipment and other specialist areas
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of instrumentation and special measurement equipment
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders to develop effective solutions
  • Define and implement best practices in instrumentation across the organization
  • Solve complex and unique measurement challenges to drive product validation
  • May travel for off-site instrumentation and test support and represent the company while working with the customer
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related business field with 5+ years of experience in technical roles
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related business field with 3+ years of experience in technical roles
  • PhD in Engineering or related business field
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance, which requires USA Citizenship
Preferred Requirements:
  • Technical expertise with Instrumentation (i.e. pressure, strain, temperature)
  • Mechanical design experience using computer aided tools such as NX
  • Engineering testing experience in gas turbine systems
  • Experience interfacing with customers on technical program issues
  • Demonstrated project planning and management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including technical writing and presentations
