Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Test Engineer II to verify and validate software and system-level medical device products. This onsite role collaborates with engineering, quality, and product development teams, traveling ~10–20% to support tests and external facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science with 2+ years of relevant experience or higher degrees.
  • Knowledge of medical device standards (AAMI/ISO/FDA/EN).
  • Experience documenting and executing verification and validation activities for software and/or system-level products.
  • Working knowledge of software design, development, debugging, and testing practices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication within cross-functional teams.

The Neuroscience portfolio at Medtronic develops technologies that treat disorders and diseases affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. Within Cranial and Spinal Technologies (CST), we bring together technologies across Spine & Biologics, AiBLE, Enabling Technologies, and Advanced Energy to support surgeons and improve outcomes in complex spine and cranial procedures. Through connected technologies, navigation, robotics, imaging, and data-driven solutions, CST helps advance procedural precision, efficiency, and consistency across the continuum of care.

This is an onsite position. The individual selected for this role will work primarily from the assigned Medtronic site and collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering, quality, and product development teams. Travel is expected approximately 10-20% of the time.

As a Test Engineer II, you will support the verification and validation of software and system-level medical device products. This role contributes to the development of test strategies, automated and manual test solutions, and execution of testing activities that help ensure product performance, quality, reliability, and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop verification and validation strategies, test plans, protocols, and reports for software and system-level products.
  • Design, implement, execute, and maintain automated and manual test solutions to support product development and release activities.
  • Create, develop, and maintain test software, tools, fixtures, and supporting test infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review product requirements, design documentation, usability considerations, risk analyses, and defect investigations.
  • Analyze test results, document findings, and recommend corrective actions or product improvements.
  • Coordinate testing activities, including work conducted at external test facilities, and ensure test equipment remains maintained and calibrated as required.
  • Support defect tracking, troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause investigations for product and system issues.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance testing efficiency, product quality, and regulatory compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 2+ years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree, OR PhD.
  • Knowledge of applicable medical device standards and regulations, including Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and European Norm (EN) standards.
  • Working knowledge of software design, development, debugging, and testing practices.
  • Experience documenting and executing verification and validation activities for software and/or system-level products.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within the medical device industry and knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR).
  • Experience developing automated test frameworks and executing graphical user interface (GUI), integration, and stress testing.
  • Experience with Linux, Cypress, Selenium, JavaScript, C++, Python, Perl, SQL, XML, or continuous integration tools.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies and iterative development practices.
  • Experience applying statistical methods, project planning, estimation, tracking, and technical problem solving within product development environments.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$84,800.00 - $127,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertain solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
