Job summary

Alten USA is seeking a Test Engineer to join our engineering team. You will help ensure the quality and reliability of complex robotic and embedded systems across hardware and software components.

You will build automated test environments, develop validation strategies, and collaborate with robotics, controls, firmware, and product teams. Strong programming in Python/C++ and experience with HW/SW testing are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field.
• 3+ years (mid-level) or 5+ years (senior) experience in HW/SW testing or validation.
• Experience testing robotics, embedded systems, or autonomous platforms.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar programming languages.
• Strong understanding of system integration and debugging methodologies.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware/software interactions.

Responsibilities

• Support system integration testing across hardware and software components.
• Develop and maintain HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) and SIL (Software-in-the-Loop) test environments.
• Define and manage requirements traceability and test case mapping.
• Track defects and test progress using tools like Jira, TestRail, or similar.
• Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and reliability standards.
• Work cross-functionally with robotics, controls, firmware, and product teams.
• Build automated test frameworks and supporting tooling.
• Create and execute validation strategies for robotic systems.
• Integrate software, hardware, controls, and networking components into automated testing solutions.
• Develop test plans covering functional, performance, and reliability requirements.
• Analyze failures and partner with engineering teams to drive corrective actions.
• Improve test efficiency through automation and continuous integration practices.

As a Test Engineer you will be responsible for;

Preferred Qualifications;

• Experience building HIL systems from the ground up.

• Robotics experience

• SDET or Quality Engineering background.

• Exposure to AI-driven automation technologies.

• Knowledge of safety-critical systems and operational environments.

Successful candidates understand how complete systems behave in real-world environments and are passionate about building automation that improves quality, reliability, and scalability.

Salary Range: $90K-$130k
