Job summary

NuScale Power, LLC is seeking a Test Engineer to develop and execute test programs supporting the NuScale Microreactor from design through deployment. The role involves coordinating with contracted resources and reporting to the Test Engineering Manager to advance technology maturation and risk reduction.

Remote work is possible within the contiguous United States, with in-office requirements for a subset of staff near Houston, TX or Corvallis, OR.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in a relevant engineering field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience executing and managing testing programs for materials or hardware.
  • Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and execute various test programs including proof-of-concept, component, performance, functional, compliance, reliability and environmental qualification.
  • Identify suitable metallography and materials characterization methods as part of materials development and testing.
  • Participate in test planning, development and review of test specifications, approval of supplier test procedures, oversight of test execution, data review and data acceptance.
  • Manage small projects and oversee test project progression through supplier evaluation, contract execution, design, implementation, testing, reporting, data acceptance, and contract close out.
  • Prepares test program budgets, schedules, resource requirements, statements-of-work, requests for quote, test specifications and test reports.
  • Leads and reviews design drawings, sketches, schematics, procedures, results, reports and documentation.
  • Leads test hardware design reviews for small projects and resolves comments stemming from these reviews.
  • Analyzes test data and validation efforts that utilize test data.
  • Organize data sets from test program
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

NOTE:

This is a 40 hour/week, fully benefited, limited duration position estimated to last between 6- 12 months. There is potential to transition to standard full-time employment. Work may be performed remotely within the contiguous United States. However, individuals who reside within a 30 mile radius of our Houston, TX or Corvallis, OR office will be required to be in office at least 4 days per week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position directly supports the Test Engineering Manager. The Test Engineer is responsible for developing and executing test programs, primarily though contracted resources, that support the design, certification, manufacture and commercial deployment of the NuScale Microreactor. Test programs conducted provide technology maturation and risk reduction, technology demonstrations, and qualification of reactor structures, systems, components and instrumentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans, devlops and executes various types of test programs including proof-of-concept, component, performance, functional, compliance, reliability and environmental qualification.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Material Science, Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Experience in executing, developing and managing testing programs for materials, fluid, mechanical or electro-mechanical hardware or devices is desired. Knowledge of and experience with refractory metals and high temperature applications is preferred, i.e. greater than 800 °C.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:

The target pay range for this position is $70,737 - $85,373 annually. The full pay range is $63,420 - $99,195 annually.
