In today’s business climate, a majority of a company’s operating knowledge is in people’s heads, paper, or cloud/network drives, and the speed at which they are moving prohibits them from documenting this critical intellectual property. As a result, this leaves a company exposed to disruption in the servicing of their clients and the operating of their business. Our mission is to instill confidence in the world by helping enterprises continuously optimize for productivity, quality, and consistency across all of their business operations.
The Confidence platform enables companies to define and document business processes and derive real time data on the execution of these processes to measure productivity and efficiency. The system incorporates AI to automate certain parts of the process and verify that the work was done correctly. Learn more here.

About the Team
Our QA team is responsible for ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality software across the Confidence platform. The team combines automation engineering, manual testing, exploratory testing, technical investigation, and release validation.
We work closely with Engineering, Product, Tech Support, Project Management, and clients to identify risks early, prevent regressions, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and continuously improve our testing processes.
The Role
As a Test Automation & Quality Assurance Engineer, you will be a highly technical QA engineer responsible for both software test automation and broader quality engineering.
You will analyze applications and requirements, determine the appropriate testing strategy, design and maintain automated test frameworks, and own QA activities from requirements through release.
This role requires someone who can go beyond simply executing test cases. You should be comfortable writing code, debugging applications, investigating APIs and backend services, reviewing logs, validating databases, working with cloud infrastructure, and collaborating directly with engineers to determine root causes.
You will play an important role in modernizing and expanding our automated testing capabilities while helping the broader engineering organization improve software quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks.
- Build and maintain automated tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
- Develop automated UI, API, functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
- Analyze requirements and acceptance criteria to determine appropriate test coverage.
- Create effective test scenarios covering happy paths, negative cases, edge cases, integrations, and real-world user workflows.
- Determine what should and should not be automated based on risk, value, stability, and maintainability.
- Develop reusable automation components, fixtures, utilities, and test infrastructure.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Investigate and resolve automation failures, including tests that behave differently locally and in CI environments.
- Identify and resolve flaky tests by determining their underlying root causes rather than relying solely on retries or timeouts.
- Perform manual, exploratory, functional, regression, and user-experience testing when appropriate.
- Test and validate REST APIs, backend workflows, authentication, requests, responses, and data.
- Investigate issues across the UI, APIs, backend services, databases, and infrastructure.
- Review application logs, network activity, API responses, and code as part of technical troubleshooting.
- Validate data and investigate backend and database inconsistencies.
- Work with engineers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects.
- Document and track defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps, evidence, expected results, and actual results.
- Own QA responsibilities for assigned features and projects from requirements through release.
- Participate in release planning, regression testing, risk assessment, and production validation.
- Evaluate open defects and provide risk-based recommendations regarding release readiness.
- Assist with investigation and validation of production issues.
- Communicate QA status, risks, blockers, defects, and recommendations to Engineering, Product, leadership, and clients.
- Help engineers, internal teams, and clients troubleshoot application issues.
- Proactively identify gaps in test coverage, automation, tooling, and QA processes.
- Contribute to improving QA engineering standards, automation architecture, and development practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming experience with TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining Playwright automation.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and improving automated test frameworks.
- Experience with functional, regression, exploratory, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Experience creating automated API tests and validating backend behavior.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, authentication, requests, responses, and backend workflows.
- Experience developing test cases from requirements, acceptance criteria, workflows, and edge cases.
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to independently diagnose complex technical issues and narrow down the source of failures.
- Comfortable reviewing logs, API responses, network activity, and code when troubleshooting.
- Experience working with Jira, Xray, Confluence, and other Atlassian products.
- Experience with Git-based development workflows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and partnership skills.
- Ability to work directly with Engineering, Product, Support, and other cross-functional teams.
- Ability to clearly communicate defects, findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to take responsibility for QA activities from requirements through release.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with Java/Spring or other backend services.
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and make basic changes to Java/Spring services.
- Experience querying databases to validate data and investigate issues.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud environments, including deployments, logs, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with performance or load testing.
- Experience testing Electron/desktop or mobile applications.
- Experience with Java and/or Python.
- Experience working with microservices.
- Experience with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot or .NET Core.
- Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit, NUnit, or Spock.
- Experience creating and maintaining internal engineering tools, utilities, services, or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with AI-assisted software development or AI-powered QA/testing tools.
