Job summary

Redwood Materials Inc. is seeking a Test Automation Engineer Intern for Fall 2026 in San Francisco. You will write Python to drive real instruments and battery hardware, build test stands from bench to production, and diagnose failures across test code, firmware, and the unit under test.

You will work with mentors to bring up test systems, automate validation, and contribute to CI pipelines. Requirements include Python proficiency, pytest experience, and a strong foundation in EE/CS concepts;

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics or related field.
• Proficient in Python and capable of reading/modifying existing code.
• Experience writing automated tests with pytest or similar framework.
• Git and PR-based development workflow experience.
• Solid understanding of circuit fundamentals and safety around energized equipment.
• Ability to read schematics, data sheets, and hardware docs; hands-on lab experience.
• Familiarity with CAN, Modbus, SCPI or similar protocols is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Write and maintain Python test automation for firmware and hardware validation using pytest.
• Develop drivers and tooling for programmable power supplies, electronic loads, and data acquisition.
• Assist in bringing up new test stands from fixtures to software sequences.
• Investigate failures on real equipment using CAN traces and bench tools to find root causes.
• Add regression coverage to CI pipelines to ensure firmware changes are validated automatically.
• Contribute to documentation and test processes, supporting a path from prototype to production.
• Own a scoped project end-to-end and present results to the engineering team at internship end.
