Versatile, dual-profile Field Application Engineer and Test Engineer with expertise in supercapacitor cells and energy storage modules. Bridges the gap between technical development and customer success by combining rigorous hands-on laboratory testing with technical customer consultation. Responsible for validating supercapacitor performance, reliability, and life cycle characteristics while simultaneously driving design-in wins by guiding clients through hardware integration, cell balancing, and system-level thermal management
Essential Functions
- Develop and execute test plans for cells, modules, battery packs, and energy-storage systems.
- Perform electrical, thermal, environmental, performance, reliability, and life-cycle testing.
- Characterize system voltage, current, capacity, energy, power, impedance, temperature, and efficiency.
- Test energy-management systems, including cell monitoring, balancing, protection functions, SOC/SOH algorithms, and fault handling.
- Conduct charge/discharge, pulse-power, cycle-life, abuse, and system-level testing as appropriate.
- Develop automated test procedures and data-acquisition systems where practical.
- Configure and operate laboratory equipment including electronic loads, power supplies, battery cyclers, oscilloscopes, DAQs, thermocouples, and other instrumentation.
- Analyze test data and identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure mechanisms.
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, thermal, and system-level issues.
- Investigate test failures and participate in root-cause analysis.
- Develop clear test reports documenting procedures, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
- Work with design engineers to reproduce field or customer issues in the laboratory.
- Recommend design, firmware, controls, or process improvements based on test results.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, controls, manufacturing, quality, and applications engineering teams.
- Support prototype build and product development activities.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally.
- Ask effective questions to understand the customer’s application issue.
- Explain test results and technical recommendations in clear, practical terms.
- Maintain a professional presence in customer meetings and presentations.
- Understand customer system-level requirements, not just individual components.
- Translate customer requirements into electrical, mechanical, thermal, and performance specifications.
- Recommend appropriate battery-system configurations and operating parameters.
- Identify potential application risks before they become field failures.
- Travel to customer sites as needed.
- Troubleshoot unfamiliar systems methodically.
- Work independently with incomplete information.
- Gather useful technical information from customers and determine the next diagnostic step.
- Remain effective under time pressure when supporting customer issues.
