Job summary

Birdon America Inc. is seeking a Test and Trials Lead to coordinate production efforts of subcontractors and Birdon trades on assigned vessel(s) in Bayou La Batre, AL. The role emphasizes leadership, TEPP development, and test execution oversight.

The candidate will develop test plans, procedures, and reports, while liaising with production, superintendents and trade supervisors to ensure resources and prerequisites are in place. Strong shipbuilding/testing background required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
• Twelve+ years of shipbuilding experience, with at least seven years in testing.
• Previous supervision of multiple trades is preferred.
• Onboard ship engineering experience will be considered in lieu of shipbuilding experience.
• Ability to supervise and coach individuals.
• Knowledge of ship terminology and OSHA standards.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook).
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Develop Test and Evaluation Program Plan (TEPP).
• Develop Test Procedures and work with customer for development approval.
• Oversee and manage test execution per approved procedures.
• Produce Test and Inspection Reports for each completed test activity.
• Develop Ship Sea and Dock Trials Agenda and Plan.
• Provide Trial Status Reports.
• Assist in development of the Accepted Ship Report (ASR).
• Lead shipboard activities for inkling experiments.
• Oversee shipboard system testing, pipe testing, tank and watertight testing as required.
• Coordinate with Production Manager, Ship Superintendents and Trade Supervisors to ensure prerequisites are met.
• Ensure proper manpower is applied to each scheduled testing event.
• Attend work regularly and be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Comply with safety, ethics, environmental rules and company policies.
• Participate in design reviews from a systems operation view.
• Collaborate with Production Control to schedule tests and prerequisites.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

ESSENTIAL

DESIRABLE

High School diploma or GED equivalent

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred.

Minimum twelve (12) years’ experience in Shipbuilding of which a minimum of seven (7) years in testing.

Previous supervision of multiple trades preferred.

Onboard ship engineering experience will be considered in leu of shipbuilding experience.

Ability to supervise and coach individuals.

Requires knowledge of and ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software including Word, Excel, Project and Outlook

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, general business periodicals, professional documents, Company policies/procedures, and governmental regulations.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, employees, government officials, and the public.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
