Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie in Billings, MT seeks a Territory Sales Manager - Residential to grow Residential sales in greater Montana and northern Wyoming, coordinating with branch and company to profitably grow our business. This role covers single and multi-family projects and requires strong relationship-building with contractors, specifiers, and distributors.

You will supervise Dealer Sales Representatives, lead trainings/workshops, and work with Regional Sales Managers to develop sales strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of industry experience and/or training in residential construction/sales.
  • 2–3 years of management experience, leading direct reports and development.
  • Strong understanding of project workflow from architect/engineer to contractor.
  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to guide customers through a story.

Responsibilities

  • Drive demand and grow sales of all Simpson product lines in the defined marketplace, including on-site visits, prospecting, and demos (55%).
  • Coach, train and manage Dealer Sales Representatives; oversee activities and performance (15%).
  • Develop and maintain key customer relationships and manage channel partnerships; provide product demos and technical support (10%).
  • Represent Simpson Strong-Tie at trade shows and industry events; promote company as a partner and employer (10%).
  • Other duties include CRM management, scheduling, expense reporting, and vehicle upkeep (10%).

As a Territory Sales Manager (TSM) - Residential, you will be responsible for growing Residential sales in the greater Montana and northern Wyoming area. You will coordinate with and contribute to the overall branch and company efforts to profitably grow our business. The Residential market segment encompasses all projects, specifiers, contractors and distribution channels/partners classified as servicing the single and multi-family residential market segments. You are responsible for sales of all Simpson product lines based on customer needs, competition, and market potential and help to formulate and execute the business strategy in your territory. You will supervise Dealer Sales Representatives, as assigned, including leadership/employee development, oversight of weekly activities, and assistance to meet goals and objectives. You will also lead and participate in training sessions/workshops in and out of the territory. These workshops require scheduling, promotion, set‑up, presentation, and take‑down, as well as providing observation and suggestions for improvement. You will work with Regional Sales Managers, Product Management, Marketing, Territory Sales Representatives, and other TSMs to develop/coordinate sales strategies and programs; and communicate appropriate market trends and field intelligence to provide to Management and Operations to ensure customer satisfaction.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
  • Drive demand and grow sales of all Simpson product lines in the defined marketplace. This includes being active on jobsites, prospecting, conducting sales calls, identifying opportunities, giving presentations including hands on demonstrations, training, and repairing tools. Analyze industry and market needs and develop the appropriate strategies, forecast territory demand, and provide support as needed by the customer and/or company. Generate and maintain specifications for single-family and multi-family projects. (55%)
  • Coach, train and manage the professional development of the Dealer Sales Representative; provide regular oversight of the Dealer Sales Representative's activities, training, and maintain performance through goal settings in alignment with overall territory, branch, company initiatives. (15%)
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with customers, as well as managing supply chain relationships with channel partners. Provide ongoing training sessions, product demos and technical support and be a problem solver for customers. Understand customers' pricing structure. (10%)
  • Promote Simpson Strong-Tie as an industry partner and potential employer; participate in trade shows, association meetings and various committees and/or causes; provide educational opportunities in classroom settings throughout your territory including but not limited to suppliers, specifiers, building officials, contractors, and homeowners. (10%)
  • Other duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to, consistent CRM management and usage, scheduling, business planning, submitting and approving expense reports in a timely manner, regular maintenance of company-owned vehicles, assisting in the interview and hiring process of Dealer Sales Representative, and other duties as assigned. (10%)
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of industry experience and/or training. Fluent in residential construction practices and distribution channels. Must have a strong working knowledge of project workflow from architect/engineer to the contractor. Sales and account management experience with a proven track record of sales/profit growth preferred.
  • 2-3 years of management experience. Proven track record of leading direct reports and employee development preferred.
  • Technical: Have the ability to gain product knowledge in order to become a trusted resource for Simpson Products and solutions as well as working with Specialists to provide support as needed.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to develop and present captivating presentations and incorporate sales skills to step a prospect through a story.
  • Creative & Innovative Thinking: Ability to exhibit creativity and innovation when contributing to organizational and individual objectives.
