Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Territory Underwriter to manage a designated commercial lines territory. You will evaluate risk, price new and renewal business, and grow relations with agencies to drive profitable expansion.

The role requires deep underwriting experience across property, GL, commercial auto, and workersComp, plus strong collaboration and data-driven decision capabilities. Hybrid work schedule with some travel supports growth at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Professional designations AU or CPCU preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in Property, General Liability, Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation.
• Strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk assessment, and policy structures.
• Familiarity with insurance policy language and coverage forms.
• Solid understanding of working with data to support underwriting decisions.
• Strong time management, organizational, and prioritization skill.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate risk, make underwriting decisions, build agency relationships, and drive profitable growth.
• Collaborate with Distribution partners, business leaders, and agencies to identify opportunities and deliver service.
• Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business within established authority.
• Manage profitability, retention, and growth within the territory.
• Negotiate terms and conditions to secure profitable opportunities.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with agency partners.
• Provide responsive service and support to agents while strengthening engagement.
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify service improvements and address feedback.
• Travel throughout the territory to meet agency partners and attend industry events.
• Participate in virtual meetings and maintain regular communication with stakeholders.
